CL boys place 6th at Humboldt X-C meet; girls place 11th
Clear Lake cross country teams tested their mettle against a very talented field at Humboldt Sept. 22. The Lion boys team finished sixth among 20 teams competing. Due to injury and illness, the Lion girls team was not able to run a complete squad.
In the boys race, the Lions were once again led by Ryan Faught, who placed 15th overall with a time of 18:15. He was followed closely by Tanner Storbeck, who finished 22nd in a time of 18:30. In a field of 140 runners, Alex Enabnit was 39th in 19:08; Spencer Orr was 52nd in 19:30; Sam Pedelty 64th in 19:48; Kaleb Froiland 86th in 20:27; and Sam Jones 96th in 20:46.
“This meet was a great prep for our conference meet that will be held at Humboldt again in a couple of weeks,” said Coach Nick DiMarco. “Every runner on the squad who ran this course last year improved their time by at least 30 seconds. The team is seeing that if we trust the training, good things will happen.”
The girls team experienced the Humboldt course for the first time, being that all of the runners are freshmen.
Gretchen Jones paced the squad with an 11th place finish out of 130 runners with an impressive time of 17:03. Molly Dugan finished 103rd in 20:58; Tali Tesar was 109th in 21:06; and Krystal Lu was 122nd in 22:39.
Junior varsity
The Clear Lake juniors varsity boys made a great showing at Humboldt. Dylan Schuchard crossed the finished line first for the Lions, placing 10th out of 161 runners. Grant Dieken placed 12th, Ike Branstad 33rd, Gage Bendickson 53rd, Colby Klipping 104th, Shane Furman 110th, Nicholas Holtz 116th, Zeke Branstad 117th, David Lincicum 135th, Carson Meyer 137th, Ben Hillyer 153rd, and Jonah Pedetly 154th place respectfully.
“The JV is making great strides and are very hard workers,” said Coach DiMarco. “The team has a very bright future in cross country.”
