Representatives chosen for new GHV School Board

Garner-Hayfield and Ventura School Boards have chosen members for a new board to represent a consolidated school district. Both boards met Sept. 15 in the wake of a successful school consolidation vote on Sept. 9.

The Ventura Board selected Larry Costello and Steve Watson to serve on the new seven-member board. Tim Tusha, Pam Roberts, Dave Zrostlik and Jack Toppin were chosen by the G-H School Board. Those six board members then met on Sept. 22 and unanimously appointed Allison Linahon, of Ventura, as the seventh member of the board.
Costello was elected as Board president; Roberts will serve as vice president.
The newly named Board will be used when the district consolidation goes into effect, July 1, 2015. The board will be comprised of seven members initially, whittled down to a five-member board by the 2019 school board election. Until July, the new board will meet the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the GHV High School media center in Garner.
Voters in Ventura and Garner-Hayfield School Districts overwhelmingly voted to consolidate their districts. Overall, 93 percent of voters approved of the reorganization.
The two school districts are currently in the third year of a whole-grade sharing agreement.
