CLHS Dance Team earns high honors at MA Dance Camp
The Clear Lake High School Dance Team attended MA Dance Camp at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 17-19.
The team spent three days working with MA’s outstanding staff on technique, team bonding, learning various dances and giving two performances.
Thursday evening the team performed a hip-hop routine choreographed by the team seniors. The team earned the highest rating of Superior. On Saturday the team performed a pom routine that they learned at camp. That performance earned them the highest rating of Grand Champion.
“Both performances were a great start to the year, proving showmanship is one of the team’s biggest assets,” said Coach Liz LeFevre.
Team members also earned individual awards throughout camp based on their performance and work during classes. Team members earning the Rising Star Award were Marissa Olk, Kate Franke, Lexie Holtz and Grace Hartnett.
All Star Performers who qualified to perform at the Capital One Bowl and the Cotton Bowl are Maddy Hartnett, Peyton Huey, Leah Becker, Marissa Olk, Ali Witt, Ellie Tindall and Sophia Schultz.
Maddy Hartnett and Peyton Huey received the highest individual award of being named to the Honor Roll. Honor Roll recipients are invited to perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Director Liz LeFevre, and assistant Katy Lubekeman also completed the coaches program during the camp.
