Roger M. Miller

 Roger Merle Miller, 86, of Independence, Iowa, died peacefully on July 17, 2014 at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence.
 Funeral services were held on Monday, July 21, 2014, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating.  Interment with Military Honors were held in St. John’s Cemetery.

   Roger was born on May 21, 1928, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Harold and Minnie (Berg) Miller.   He was a graduate of Clear Lake High School. On Sept. 23, 1950, Roger was united in marriage to Nancy Petersen in Clear Lake. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 9, 1950, and served proudly until his discharge in 1952. He and Nancy later made their home in Independence. Roger spent most of career as a salesman, working for the York Casket Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Shysters, and the American Legion.
  Roger enjoyed traveling south for the winter with Nancy, and loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes; but only when they were winning.
  He is survived by his children Laurie (Fred) Greiner, Boone, Iowa, Jeff (Nan) Miller, Elbert, Colo., Tim Miller, Ankeny, Iowa, Steve (Donna) Miller, Independence, and Ann (John) Ohl, Independence. Sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruthie Lease, Clear Lake, and Mary Lou Sheldon, Edina, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Nancy.
Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, was in charge of arrangements.
