Council will address veteran’s memorial at Aug. 4 meeting

The Clear Lake City Council is expected to take action Aug. 4 on a recommendation from the Parks Board to not allow a veterans memorial at the Sea Wall.

Parks and Recreation Department Director Randy Miller reported to the Council Monday that after tabling a decision in June, the Parks Board voted July 16 to recommend that a proposed veterans memorial not be placed in front of the Sea Wall.  The vote was 5-1.  (See related story on this page).

Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb stated Monday that by waiting two weeks, Council members will have time to hear from their constituents regarding the issue. 

The location and start time of the Aug. 4 meeting will be announced in the July 30 issue of the Mirror-Reporter.  The Council has been holding its meetings outside of City Hall due to renovations at that site.

 

Water treatment plant upgrades

In other business Monday night, the Council set the date for bid letting and a public hearing for pump replacement at the city’s Water Treatment Plant.  The bid letting was set for Aug. 13, with a hearing and award of contract expected on Aug. 18.  

In June 2013, the Council authorized a consultant services agreement with Veenstra & Kimm to assess the existing conditions of the Water Treatment Plant’s high service pumps.  This was in response to some operational issues with one of the high service - Read More Via e-Edition
