Mary Lou Holstad
Mary Lou Holstad, 83, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Kirk Wilkie officiating. Inurnment followed in the Sion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, Iowa. Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Mary Lou’s name to Hospice of North Iowa.
Mary Lou was born June 2, 1931 in Hamlin, Iowa, the youngest of the three children of Fred and Freda (Ruhs) Rabe. She attended school in Audubon, Iowa, and college at the University of Northern Iowa, where she graduated with a teaching degree in 1951.
She married Orin Holstad on Feb. 1, 1953 in Webb, Iowa. In 1960 they moved to Clear Lake. She taught elementary school in Hanlontown, Iowa, for 30 years.
Mary Lou is survived by her two children, Connie (Ken) Kvam, of Buffalo, Minn., and David (Marlene) Holstad, of Clear Lake; one grandson, Patrick Holstad; one brother, Fred (Barbara) Rabe, of Audubon; one sister, Josephine Jensen, of Loveland, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
