Young softball team is working hard to correct fielding errors

The Clear Lake girls fell to 1-16 overall and 1-9 in the conference last week. Coach Megan Young said the young team is working hard to correct fielding errors which are giving their opponents too many opportunities.

Webster City 5, CL 0

 The Lions were held to just one hit when they hosted Webster City Wednesday, June 18. The Lynx went on to a 5-0 North Central Conference victory.

 Freshman Michaela Niles was the only Lion to collect a hit.
 Reagan Brackey gave up only six hits in seven innings on the mound for the Lions. Three of Webster City’s five runs were earned.

Mason City 22, CL 12
 Clear Lake played a wild and wooly non-conference game with Mason City Friday. The Lions jumped out to a 9-2 lead after one inning, but fell short in the end, 22-12.
 “The girls came out strong in the beginning, but got down quickly because of errors and hard hits,” said Coach Megan Young. “This really was a battle of patience at the plate.”
 The Lions had only five hits in the game. Katie Hewett had a single, Lindsay Kearns a triple, and Lexi Jones had a double and two singles.
“We are continuing on working toward patience and battling at the plate,” added Coach Young. “Reagan Brackey is doing a great job of working her pitches. She moves the ball around to make the opponent keep guessing.”
Brackey pitched six innings and gave up 19 hits. Thirteen of the Mohawks’ 22 runs were earned.
Mohawk Tournament
Clear Lake dropped both of their games at the Mohawk tournament on Saturday, losing 10-0 in five innings to South Hardin and 14-2 to Osage in three innings.
Offense was scarce for the Lions in both games.
Against South Hardin, eighth grader Chloe Mueller had the Lions’ lone hit. - Read More Via e-Edition
