Irene Ingebretson

Irene T. Ingebretson, formerly of Thornton, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Samaritan Bethany Home, Rochester, Minn.

     A funeral mass was held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Rev.  John Gossman officiating.  Interment was at the Richland Lutheran Cemetery, Thornton.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Opportunity Village, 1200 N. 9th St. W., Clear Lake, Iowa, 50428.

     Irene was born on Jan. 4, 1919 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Jack and Loretta (Collins) Connors.  She graduated from Rodman High School, Rodman, Iowa, and received a degree from Hamilton’s Business College.  Irene met her future husband, Max, at Hamilton’s College. She served in the Navy during WWII, working as a clerk in both Mason City and Iowa City, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Max Ingebretson in 1941 and to this union were born three sons and one daughter.  

     Irene worked as a clerk for Woolworth Drug Store, then as a housewife during the younger ages of the children.  In 1964, she began working as a secretary for the Meservey/Thornton Schools, retiring in 1994. 

    Irene is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Terry) Johnson, Rochester, Minn.; three sons, Mark (Peggy) Ingebretson, Houston, Texas, Mike (Marsha) Ingebretson, Onawa, Iowa, and Melvin Ingebretson, Clear Lake; grandchildren, Ryan (Jillian) Johnson, Craig (Kyleen) Johnson, Emily Ingebretson, Matthew Ingebretson, Katie Ingebretson, Molly Ingebretson, Brandon (Eliza) Ingebretson and Megan (Jeff) Wilson; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jace, Camden, Harper, Dylan, Finley and Jaxon; and sister-in-law, Marybelle Johnson, Inver Groves Heights, Minn.

     Irene was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Max (Nov. 22, 1971).

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
