Lions record a lopsided win over Mason City

Mason City managed to score a goal with barely five-minutes to play, but Clear Lake still posted a lopsided win over the Mohawks Thursday, May 22.  The Lions won, 6-1.

Clear Lake wasted no time getting on the board.  Jack Abbas converted the first score of the contest in the fifth minute.  In the 13th minute, Antonino DiMarco made an assist to Erinie Miszewski, who headed the ball in for another score.

DiMarco scored in the 29th minute off a penalty kick, making it 3-0.

In the 36th minute Jarod Anderson put the ball in play off a direct kick over Mason City’s back line.  Miszewski won the foot race and converted the kick for the fourth goal of the half for a 4-0 lead.

In the 48th minute Anderson passed the ball to Abbas, who worked his way into the middle and then back to the outside before striking the ball into the side of the net for his second goal of the night.  In the 60th minute Anderson converted a penalty kick for the Lions sixth and final goal.

In the 75th minute of the match Kyle Lang converted his attack on goal to break the Lions’ 10-game streak of not allowing a score.

“If someone was going to break our defense I’m glad it was Kyle.  He was a long time member of our North Iowa Soccer Club and Premier team,” said Coach Matt Anderson.  “It’s always good to see your former players having success, even when it means the end of a record breaking defensive stand.”

Jacob Hogan recorded four saves in 65 minutes of playing time.
