Boys tennis team advances to Sub-State
The Lions began post-season play Saturday, hosting Denison-Schleswig at the Clear Lake High School tennis courts. The Lions won, 5-3, to advance to Sub-State against LeMars this Saturday at Fort Dodge St. Edmond. The winner of the Clear Lake vs. LeMars match will take on the winner of the St. Ed’s vs. Spencer match, with the winning team advancing to the State Team
Tennis Tournament.
CL 5, Denison-Schleswig 3
The Lions split singles matches, but won twice in doubles to earn a 5-2 victory over Denison-Schleswig Saturday,
Sam Jones won at number one singles, topping Mitch Kinsey, 6-1, 6-0. Denison-Schleswig then got rolling with wins at two, three and four, before Nick Chizek and Ben Mason posted victories for the Lions. Chizek was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Porter Bilsten, while Mason won, 6-2, 6-3 over Ben Moran.
For D-S, Nathan Fastje edged Clear Lake’s JJ Theobald 7-6 (7-5) in game one and got the victory with by a 6-1 score in the second match. Spencer Pauley was steady over the Lions’ Andrew Davis, 6-2, 6-2 and Matt Moran was pushed to three sets against Jacob Peterson, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles play, Jones and Andrew Davis teamed to defeat Kinsey/SPencer Pauley 6-4, 6-3. Chizek/Mason topped Bilsten/Ayala, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
CL 7, W-SR 2
The Lions tuned up for the post-season by facing Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, May 12. The Lions prevailed, 7-2.
