CL teams compete at North Central Conference Track Meet
The Clear Lake boys recorded their best finish since 1991 at the North Central Conference Track Meet run Tuesday, May 13 at Lions Field. The Lions were runner-up with 87-points. Algona took the title with 175.5 points. Clarion-Goldfield finished one-half point behind the Lions with 86.50.
Chandler Diercks returned from injury to win the long jump and break Mark Hewitt’s conference record with a jump of 23’ 6”. Hewitt’s record had held since 1981 at 22’ 10”.
Connor Nosbisch won the 110 meter high hurdles for the second straight year. The senior recorded a 15.36 to win by a second. Nosbisch was also a member of the winning Distance Medley relay team, along with MaKean Bang, Dustin King and Alex Webb. The group ran a 3:47.80. He also anchored the Shuttle Hurdle relay which finished as runner-up to Algona. Parker Truesdell, Chase Bacon, Alex Vander Ploeg and Nosbisch ran a 1:01.68.
Clear Lake’s 4x200 was also conference champs. Zach Tatum, Bang, Jake Harle and Diercks edged Clarion-Goldfield at the tape to win in 1:34.27. The same runners also comprised the 4x100, which was third in 45.51.
Harle also earned a pair of third place finishes. He jumped 20’ 2.5” in the long jump and ran the 200 meters in 23.37.
Other top individual placements included Truesdell, third in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.98; King, fourth in the 400 in 54.19; Jordan Mitchell, fifth in the shot put with a toss of 43’ 10.75”; Vander Ploeg, sixth in the high jump at 5’4”; and Tatum, seventh in the 100 in 11.94.
Girls results
Algona was the cream of the NCC crop on the girls side. The Bulldogs ran away with title by piling up 149 points. Webster City and Humboldt were distant second and third place with 11 and 105. Clear Lake had a disappointing night, finishing 10th with 13 points.
“It was a wet/cold night to run. The times of all girls reflected the weather conditions,” said Coach Shawn Puttmann.
Earning points for the Lions was Brittany Bieber, sixth in the long jump with a personal best effort of 14’ 4”.
Bieber, along with Shelby Dickes, Mckenna Backhaus and Megan Merfeld, were fourth in the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:57.24. The same foursome also ran the 4x100 and placed seventh in 57.22, as well as the 800 Sprint Medley, placing eighth in 2:09.55.
Merfeld also earned an individual placement in the 200 meters, clocking a 28.98. Dickes was also eighth in the long jump with a mark of 13’ 4.25”.
Aspen Curtis recorded a 10th place finish in the 400 hurdles, running a 1:23.18. She also took 13th in the 100 hurdles in 18.60.
Girls Junior Varsity
In junior varsity competition, Selena Borrill impressed with a first place finish in the long jump. Her best effort was 12’3”. Borrill was also sixth in the 100 in a time of 15.79.
Kirsten Reineke finished second in the 100 meters, running a 14.43. She also placed fifth in the 200 in 32.46 and was a member of the fifth place 4x100 relay with Borrill, Emily VanderPloeg and Katie Adams. The same foursome placed sixth in the 4x200 in 2:20.35.
VanderPloeg also earned eighth place in the shot put with a toss of 23’ 8.25” and was ninth in the 200 in - Read More Via e-Edition
