City sets hearing for property sale to Opportunity Village
The Clear Lake City Council has scheduled a public hearing for Monday, June 2, to consider the sale of property on South 3rd Street to Opportunity Village for the construction of a new residential building.
In December, the Council approved the purchase of 1115, 1119 and 1123 S. 3rd St. for $98,000 for redevelopment purposes. The properties were owned by Loren J. Roney, of Swaledale.
City Administrator Scott Flory said the properties were in disrepair and will be torn down. Charlson Excavating, Clear Lake, was the low bidder for the demolition. Work is not anticipated to begin until after Memorial Day, following completion of the Iowa DNR requirement relating to the removal of asbestos from the structures and the associated 10 day waiting period.
The City has also solicited quotes from licensed tree trimmers for onsite tree removal and stump grinding.
At the June 2 public hearing, the City will consider a Resolution to set the date for a public hearing on the proposal to dispose of its interest in 1115 and the north one-half of 1119 S. 3rd Street to Opportunity Village for the sum of $40,000. Opportunity Village hopes to build a new residential dwelling on the roughly 85 x 130-foot parcel.
