Doris N. Voight

Doris N. Voigt, 93, of Mason City, and formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service for Doris will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th Street, Clear 

Lake with Pastor Kirk Wilke officiating.  A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Geneva Cemetery in Geneva, Minn.  A visitation with a public viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City.

Doris Nida Mae (Reese) Voigt, daughter of the late Martin and Nina (Miller) Reese, was born Jan. 6, 1921 in Ellendale, Minn.  She was the fifth child of nine in her family and attended school in Ellendale.  At the age of 18, she was united in marriage to Warren Voigt on Jan. 10, 1939 in New Richland, Minn.  To this union, six children were born, Marlene, Wayne, Mariann, Darlene, Connie, and Dennis.  

The family lived in Austin, Minn., where she worked with her husband at the Hormel plant for 17 years.   In 1964, they moved to Clear Lake, where they owned and operated the Hi-Moon Motel.  Shortly after their acquisition, Warren passed away after 25 years of wedded bliss and Doris continued to operate the business, retiring in 1990. She lived in Hampton for a short time before making her home in Mason City.

Her passions included fishing with Warren and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.  Doris’ yearly ritual had been wintering in Arizona with Connie for the past 29 years.  She traveled the states with Mariann and most recently, Dennis took her to see her brother in Texas in January.  She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, attending baseball games with Mike.  Most importantly, she was a very independent and  hard working lady, who cared about many.  Her family was very important to her, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandson.  For 46 years, she made her annual trip to Geneva, Minn., to visit her husband’s and families’ graves, where she planted flowers.  When she was unable to drive, her grandson, Kris, accompanied her.

She volunteered at the Stockman House in Mason City for 24 years and at the voting polls during election years.  She was actively involved with the Stebens Children Theatre in Mason City and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.  She also was a member of the Clear Lake VFW Auxiliary and greatly appreciated them during her illness.

Doris will be missed by her children, Mariann (Jim) Kasper, Kaukauna, Wis., Connie (Leo) Crowley, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Dennis Voigt, Perham, Minn.; grandchildren, Natalie (Mike) Murray, Shakopee, Minn., Todd (Julie) Nielsen, Anthem, Ariz., Theresa (Rich) McDaniel, Perham, Minn., Vicky (Mike) Schmidt, Fortsmith, Ark., Tom Nielsen, Sobieski, Wis., Stacy (Mary Helen) Coffey, San Francisco, Calif., Kristofer (Lizza) Voigt, Mason City and Megan (Aaron) Herman, Mason City; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brother, Martin Reese Jr., Grandview, Texas; and her sister, Maxine Hanson, Albert Lea, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; three children in infancy, Marlene, Wayne, and Darlene; her parents; two brothers, Merle and Donald Reese; and her four sisters, Bernice Hendrickson, Viola Ausen, Ardella Olsen, and Ardis Christianson.

Doris will now be reunited with her husband after 48 years.
