Lawrence D. Tibbits

     Lawrence Donald Tibbits, 93, 20 N. 4th St., #312 Clear Lake, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his home. A funeral service was held on Monday, May 19, at the Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile, Iowa, with Rev. Dave Halvorsen officiating. Inurnment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers Memorials may be given to the Fertile Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Larry was born Jan. 29, 1921 in Rock Falls, Iowa, the son of William and Gladys (Morse) Tibbits. He was one of 15 children. He grew up in the Rock Falls and Clear Lake areas. He attended Rock Falls Schools. Larry married Frances Skalicky on Nov. 11, 1946 in Mason City.
Larry was known to be a workaholic by family and friends. Besides farming, he worked at the Hanlontown Elevator, the Clear Lake Elevator and in the early years the Sugar Beet Plant and Marigold Dairy. His other involvements were being on the board of the Fertile Creamery and the Hanlontown Co-op Elevator. He was a 4-H leader. Larry loved flowers, reading and going to auctions. In retirement he enjoyed his group at the Backyard Deli, “Members of the Hearing Impaired group.” Larry was a member of the Fertile Lutheran Church.
Larry is survived by his wife, Frances Tibbits, Clear Lake; three children, Nancy (Mike) Cash, Ventura, Judy (Jim) Levad, Forest City, Iowa, and Tim (Candy) Tibbits, New Virginia, Iowa; grandchildren, Todd (Jennifer) Cash, Ryan (Shana) Cash, Megan Levad, Jason Tibbits, Logan Tibbits and Tyler (Elena) Levad; great-grandchildren, Katie Cash and fiancé, Dan Behr, Madalynn Cash, Garett Cash and Sofia Levad; brothers and sisters, Betty Lane, Manly, Iowa, June Frederickson, Mason City, Phyllis Gericke, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Clarice “Tootie” (Jerry) Skyles, Portland, Ore., Marlys Pederson, Waukee, Iowa, Marlene (Jerry) Jenkins, Longmont, Colo., Ed (Carol) Davies, Mason City, Wally (Judy) Davies, Manly, and Tiny Krahenbuhl, Osage, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Tibbits and Gladys Davies; step-mother, Mae Tibbits Oswald and step-father, Walter Davies; brothers and sisters, Bob Tibbits, Joanne Franks, Marvin “Snooks” Tibbits, Donnie Tibbits and Ronnie Tibbits; brothers-in-law, Maurice Lane, Kneeland Fredrickson, Dutch Gericke, Herb Pederson and Larry Krahenbuhl; and sister-in-law, Gladys Tibbits; two nephews and a great-niece.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
