Cardinals place third at West Hancock Meet
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys golf team finished third in the seven-team West Hancock Meet held on Saturday, May 3, in Britt.
Clarion won the meet with 312 points, followed by Lake Mills with 325. The Cardinals finished the meet with 346 strokes.
Clarion’s Chris Staudt was the medalist with a 72. Trenton Sann, also of Clarion, was the runner-up with a 77.
“The boys played solid golf, for the most part, but a few bad holes cost some good rounds,” said Coach Ken Krause.
Jacob Heinemann led GHV’s balanced scoring with an 83, followed by Matt Schroeder and Grady Umbarger both carding an 87. Mitch Lunning rounded out the scoring with an 89. Also golfing for the Cards was Braeden Johnston with an 89 and Ryan Grunwald with a 91.
The team competes in the North Iowa Conference Meet on Monday, May 12, in Forest City and the Sectional Meet will be held on Friday, May 16, in Charles City.
The team’s record now stands at 12-7.
