Lions travel to Hampton for co-ed track meet

The Clear Lake girls and boys track teams were in Hampton Friday, May 2, to compete in an large co-ed invitational.  Even down three top performers, the Clear Lake boys ran extremely well, placing fifth out of 11 teams with 69.5 points; Hudson won the meet with 113. On the girls side, the Lions scored a season-high 22 points, placing 11th in the 12-team field.  Hudson also topped the girls standings with 124 points.

Boys results

Connor Nosbisch earned a first place finish in the 110 hurdles, running a 14.99, and helped the shuttle hurdle relay team to its best time this season.  The relay with Parker Truesdell, Chase Bacon, Alex Vander Ploeg and Nosbisch placed second in 1:00.89.  Nosbisch also anchored the 4x100 relay, which also finished second in a time of 45.41.  That relay also included Zach Tatum, Jake Harle and Makean Bang.

Harle was also an individual winner for the Lions.  He won the long jump with a mark of 19’ 11”.  His other placements included finishing third in the 200 meter dash in 23.58 and fourth in the 100 meters in 11.62.  Teammate Zach Tatum was third in the 100 in 11.60.

Other individual placements included Pete Swenson, third in the high jump with a leap of 5’6”; Chase Bacon, sixth in the 110 hurdles in 17.0; and Parker Truesdell, eighth in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.72.  

 

Girls results

The Clear Lake girls scored a season-high 22 points with a small group of girls placing in numerous events.  

“We could have scored more in the 400 metro hurdles, but Aspen Curtis came up sick before the race.  Her time might of gave us a fourth place,” explained Coachg Shawn Puttman.  “With the low numbers that we have we can not afford to have anyone sick.”

The coach noted that freshman  Mckenna Backhaus competed very well in the 100 meter dash, placing sixth in 13.99.  Backhaus was also part of the 4x100, 4x200 and Sprint medley relays which each placed seventh.  The 4x100 also included Megan Merfeld, Curtis and Brittany Bieber.  The group was clocked in 56.63.  The 4x200 was comprised of Shelby Dickes, Curtis, Backhaus and Bieber running 1:57.65.  The 800 Sprint Medley was clocked in 2:06.29 with Selena Borrill, Bieber, Backhaus and Merfeld.

Bieber earned a fourth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 13’ 6”, while Merfeld was fourth in the 400 in 1:07.73 and sixth in the 200 in 29.16.  Maulsby also ran the 100 and 200, placing 15th and 14th in 14.94 and 31.55.  Katie Adams was 16th in the 400 hurdles in 1:34.32.
