Gardens will focus on view to north
Work at Central Gardens of North Iowa this year will focus on landscaping aimed at minimizing “the elephant gazing in,” otherwise known as a new condominium development located at the north end of the gardens, according to Chip Kinsey, Central Gardens Board president.
Kinsey provided an update and report about 2013 activities at the gardens to the City Council Monday night.
“We have some worried brides,” Kinsey said, referring to the condominium construction taking place behind the gardens’ iconic Moon Gate on the north end where many bridal parties and couples have had photos taken. “We will be focusing on north end planting this year.”
“However, we welcome our new neighbors and hope in a few years we both will enjoy a compatible relationship. We contemplate working cooperatively with its senior residents,” added Kinsey.
In his report Kinsey noted the gardens hosted 17 weddings, a couple dozen additional private events and numerous tours and picnics.
Major projects completed in 2013 included stairs and a patio south of the Nature Education Pavilion which now makes it possible for visitors to access the new building without climbing a hill. Additional landscaping and handrails will be installed this year.
