Alice K. Thompson
Alice Katherine (Juhl) Thompson passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at age 95. Alice’s memorial service was held Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community, 1310 N. Highlands Pkwy., Tacoma, Wash.
She was born in Iowa on May 8, 1918, to Axel and Katherine Juhl. She graduated from high school at age 16, and from Waldorf Lutheran College at age 18. Her first teaching job was in a small rural school in Iowa with all grades in one room.
Alice married Arnold F. Thompson on Sept. 10, 1940 and traveled throughout the U.S. and Germany as a proud army wife. She created a secure and loving home for her family wherever they lived. In 1957, Alice and her family moved to Tacoma, Wash., where she worked at McChord Ordinance Depot and Fort Lewis.
After her careers in teaching and civil service, Alice became the volunteer coordinator of the South Tacoma Fish Food Bank. She worked tirelessly for the clients of the food bank for over 20 years and received many awards for her service to the South Tacoma community.
Alice was strong, courageous, hard-working, resilient, optimistic, accepting, loving, and always saw the good in a situation and in people.
She leaves two daughters, Patricia Bonneau, and her husband, Rene, and Linda Loraas, and her husband, Keith; her three adored grandchildren, Emily Andresen, and her husband, David, Jean-Paul Bonneau, and his wife, Kirstyn, and Erik Loraas; two great-grandsons, Cooper and Caleb Andresen; and great-grandchild, Baby Bonneau, due in June, 2014. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her eight siblings, and her husband, Arnold F. (Tommy) Thompson.
New Tacoma Cemeteries and Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
