Colon earns top seed at NCAA tournament
UNI’s Joe Colon earned a top seed at the NCAA wrestling tournament, while four other Panthers were seeded in the top 15.
The NCAA announced the 330 student-athletes, including 45 at-large selections, for the 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, to be held March 20-22, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Seven Panthers are headed to the NCAA tournament, which is the most since 2007-08 when nine qualified.
Number one rated Colon, who was a former Clear Lake High School wrestling standout, will wrestle at 133 pounds. Colon (30-1) will face Vincent Dellafave (13-10), of Rutgers. Dellafave earned an at-large bid. Colon beat Dellafave in a 1-0 decision in the third round of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite. Colon has won his last 20 matches. Colon is first for career winning percentage (.919/57-5) and first for single season winning percentage (.968/30-1).
UNI has the only undefeated wrestling team in Division I.
