Thelma G. Heston
Thelma “Grace” Heston, 95, Clear Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. A funeral was held on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Kirk Wilkie officiating. Burial was in
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family suggests memorials to Thelma Grace Heston memorial fund in care of Dr. Michael Heston, 1411 4th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa, 50401.
Grace was born Feb. 26, 1918 at the family home in Abingdon, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Lora (Schooley) Ireland. She graduated from Fairfield High School and AIB (American Institute of Business). Grace married Robert Heston on Jan. 13, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Sumner, Iowa, Clear Lake, Princeton, Ill., Mason City, and Iowa Falls, Iowa, before retiring back to Clear Lake.
Grace was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her bridge groups, watching birds, word games, puzzles, cooking, baking, traveling, family gatherings and the family fishing trips to Canada.
Grace is survived by her children, Dr. R. Michael Heston, Mason City, Rose Anne Wallace, Durham, N.C., Kathleen Henriksen, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dr. James Heston and his wife, Laurie, Homer, Alaska; grandchildren, Sue Heston, Merriam, Kan., Dr. Pam O’Connor and her husband, Terence, The Woodlands, Texas, Steven Heston, Britt, Iowa, and David Ballard Heston, Anchorage, Alaska; great-grandchildren, Katie and John O’Connor; and nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert (May 29, 1996); sister, Bernice Turner; and brother, Floyd “Bub” Ireland.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
