Lions earn post season recognition
As expected, Class 3A District 3 champion Clear Lake led the balloting for All-District players. The Lions placed six players on the First Team All-District offense and six on the defense.
The Lion defense is represented by Chandler Diercks, defensive back; Zach Zwiefel, defensive line; Pete Swenson, inside linebacker; Tim Franken, outside linebacker/defensive end; Connor Nosbisch, outside linebacker/defensive end; and
Chase Lester, utility.
Diercks, a junior, led the Lions with four interceptions this season. He also made 23 solo and 39 assisted tackles. Zwiefel, a junior, recorded two solo sacks during the season, along with 18 solo and 59 assisted tackles. Franken, a junior, made two solo tackles for loss, two solo sacks and 52 tackles in 2013. Nosbisch, a senior, had a team-high 13 solo tackles for a loss, 12 solo sacks and two interceptions. His 27 solo tackles also led the team. Lester, who missed part of his senior season with an injury, made nine solo and 28 assisted tackles. He recovered two fumbles and made an interception this season.
The All-District offense included Brock Adams, quarterback; Carter Hand, running back; Ernie Miszewski, wide receiver; Mitchell Jordan, offensive line; Brock Brandt, offensive line; and Logan Kracht, punter.
Adams passed for 1,415-yards this season. The junior completed 71 of 124 pass attempts this season (57 percent), for an average of 19.9-yards per pass. He threw 16 touchdown passes, including a 92-yard score. He threw nine interceptions during the 2013 season. Adams was also effective on the ground. He rushed 96 times for 532-yards and scored five times.
