Accident sends two to hospital

Two persons were hospitalized following a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 18 and Main Avenue, Ventura, Sunday, Oct. 27.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Clear Lake police were 

summoned to the motor vehicle crash.  When they arrived, they found that a truck driven by 62-year-old Irene Faber, of Kensett, had T-boned a car driven by 84-year-old Ernest Gales, of Bode. Faber had been going north through the intersection when she struck the driver’s side of the Gale vehicle, which was traveling westbound. 

Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.  On Tuesday, Gales was listed in serious condition; no information was available about Faber.

At the time of the collision there were two passengers in the vehicle driven by Faber. Ernest Gales’ wife, Helen Gales, was riding with him.  All of the passengers were treated at the scene and released.

Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson noted the intersection of Highway 18 and Main Avenue in Ventura is controlled by a traffic light which was operating. As of Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed and the accident remains under investigation. 

The Clear Lake Ambulance Service responded to the scene of the crash, assisted by the Garner and Mason City Ambulance Service. The Clear Lake and Ventura Fire Departments also assisted at the scene.
