Chamber asks public for fireworks memories

What do the Clear Lake fireworks mean to you?  How does it blend into your family traditions? How does it enhance your celebration of our nation’s birthday?

These questions and more are what the Clear Lake Area Chamber is looking for.   It wants your

stories, memories, traditions and sharing of how you and your family celebrate July 4th with Clear Lake’s fireworks.

“Clear Lake has had fireworks launched from boats on the lake for 135 years. It is part of our community fabric and identity. It is what makes traditions for many generations, for visitors and residents alike.  We want to hear about them all,” said Chamber Executive Director Tim Coffey.

Coffey said if there is enough response, the memories may go into book form.  At the very least, the stories will be documented as part of the history of Clear Lake. He also would welcome any fireworks photos.

Send stories, photos and traditions to Coffey at the Chamber, 205 Main Ave., Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.  Coffey may also be reached by phone at 357-2159 or email him at [email protected].  Those stopping in the Chamber office across the street from City Park may also be interviewed.

“I hope people will respond to this request,” Coffey said. “We take a lot of pride in our July 4th traditions here in Clear Lake and the fireworks are the cornerstone of those celebrations.”

Coffey said that the first 50 people to share their stories will get the Chamber’s brand new Clear Lake coffee mug.
