GHV volleyball team keeps rolling
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team kept things rolling last week, picking up a win against Belmond-Klemme and going 4-2 at the Bishop Garrigan Tournament.
GHV 3, Belmond-Klemme 0
Belmond-Klemme didn’t give the Cardinals too much trouble on Tuesday, Sept. 24, as GHV rolled in all three games, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-14.
“We knew BK was going to put up a tough block in the middle, so we focused on spreading out the offense,” said Coach Kelsey Steffens.
Leading the strong offensive effort was Emily Mathews with 12 kills on 21 attempts. Hannah Lau had eight kills on 14 attempts, while Emily Spilman had five kills on 20 attempts. Giving her hitters something to work with was Courtney Younge with 19 assists.
Miranda Fredericks led the defensive effort with five digs. Mallory Van Oort had three digs.
Spilman was the strong server of the night, collecting 12 points and six aces. Younge and Van Oort also finished with 12 points for the night with three aces apiece.
Bishop Garrigan Tournament
It was a big day of volleyball, as the Cardinals went 4-2 at the Bishop Garrigan Tournament held on Saturday, Sept. 28.
