A week of ups and downs

The Clear Lake girls had an up and down week on the volleyball court.

The Lions opened the week with a strong North Central Conference win at Hampton-Dumont.  They downed the Bulldogs 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.

“Volleyball is all about momentum and trying to keep your mistakes to a minimum.  We were able to keep it on our side of the net most of the night,” said Coach Scott Swenson.  “We did a nice job of keeping our mistakes to a limited basis.  I was very happy with the total team effort and energy on the floor. The girls were diving and hustling all over the court.”

Kaye Faber had 15 assists and two solo blocks to impress the coach.

“The play of Kaye Faber these past two matches (Mason City and H-D) has been tremendous.  She has been able to play all rotations around the court and brings an unpredictable and balanced approach as one of our setters for our offense.  Katie Hewett is another junior who has stepped up to the challenge early this season.  She is a lot of fun to watch at the net with her dominant play on offense and defense.”

Hewett helped the team with four assisted blocks.

Bailey Kibsgaard was 12/13 serving with an ace and three assisted blocks.  Emily Phalen was 12/13 serving with an ace and had 18 digs in the match.  Jeni Hamlin added 24 assists and three service aces.  Madi Faber had 17 digs and two service aces.  Sam Wilkinson was in the stat book with 11 digs and Sidney Borrill had two kills and three assisted blocks.
