Margaret J. Hansen

 

Margaret Jean Hansen, 91, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept 2, 2013 at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Iowa.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, from 2 – 4 p.m., with a time of sharing memories at 3 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  A private inurnment will be held at the Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Margaret Jean Hansen was born April 12, 1922 to Leonard and Caroline (Monson) Barrett in Estherville, Iowa.  She is a graduate of Estherville High School and attended Hamilton’s Business College.  

Margaret was united in marriage to Ray Junior Hansen Aug. 6, 1940 in Titonka, Iowa.  Together they raised three wonderful children.  Margaret was a stay-at-home mother and Ray worked at the Mobile Gas Station. They lived in Titonka for several years until moving to Clear Lake in 1954.

Margaret was an avid volunteer, devoting much of her time with the Clear Lake Chamber.  She also wrote and distributed the newsletters for the Clear Lake High School and the United Methodist Church.  Margaret was a sports fanatic.  She enjoyed all sports and wasn’t shy about cheering for her teams.  Margaret enjoyed traveling, and went on Heritage bus trips making it to all 50 states.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Rodney (Dee) Hansen, Pittsburg, Mo.; daughter, Beverly (Gary) Carman, Charles City, Iowa; daughter in-law, Mary Hansen, Rockport, Texas; grandchildren, Rodney Jr. (Beki) Hansen, Debbie Bell, Mark (Phyllis) Hansen, Missy Hansen, Eric (Kim) Carman, and Michele (Ryan) Alton; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Thrane, Aurora, Colo.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Caroline Barrett; husband, Ray Junior Hansen; son, Kenneth Hansen; brothers, Earl Barrett and Raymond Barrett; and sisters, Mildred Wiseman, Esther Hogan, and Mary Belle Huff.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
