CL volleyball team sweeps Eagle Grove
The Clear Lake varsity volleyball team swept Eagle Grove 3-0 in a match played Thursday, Sept. 5, in Eagle Grove. The Lions prevailed, 25-17, 25-13, 25-14. The victory puts the Lions at 3-3 in match play and 1-0 in the conference.
Coach Scott Swenson called the win a “total team effort.”
“The play of Carney Frahm, Sidney Borrill, Katie Hewitt, Sam Wilkinson and Marcie Dick was instrumental in making this a total team effort against Eagle Grove. The girls played with a lot of enthusiasm and vitality,” said Swenson.
The Lions started the match a bit sluggish, he said, but were able to play through it without having to call a time-out.
Bailey Kibsgaard led the Lions with nine kills and 12/12 serving with one ace. The senior also had four digs. Lindsay Loudenburg was also tough on offense with seven kills and 9/12 serving. Emily Phalen contributed three kills, 18 digs and was 6/6 serving with one ace.
Madi Faber had 17 digs with 10/10 serving and three aces. Jeni Hamlin had 17 assists and was 7/7 serving with two aces. Kaye Faber was 11/13 serving with three aces and 12 assists.
“Once again we had very good senior leadership in pre-game preparation and keeping the team grounded after the match,” added Swenson. “When Bailey Kibsgaard, on the offensive side, and Madi Faber, on the defensive side, and are having big games, I like our chances of winning. A lot of the success Thursday night can be attributed to Jeni Hamlin, our senior setter. Her passion and work ethic for volleyball are motivators for the team on game day.”
This Thursday the Lions make their home debut, hosting Charles City and Mason City in a triangular at CLHS.
