Sheakly and Kockler play in All-Star Series

Gavin Sheakley and Jerry Kockler, from the State Champion Clear Lake baseball team, were chosen by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association to participate in the group’s All-Star Series played Aug. 8-11 at Valley High School in West Des Moines and Principal Park in Des Moines. 

Sheakley, who pitched and played outfield for the Lions, and Kockler, a pitcher and third baseman, played for the Small School East Squad.  They were joined by another North Iowa player,  Jacob Webb from Central Springs. Ethan Miller, head coach at Central Springs, was also selected as one of three coaches to lead the Small Schools East Squad.

Small Schools East went 2-2, losing in the championship game Sunday to Large Schools West by a score of 5-3.  

On Thursday night, Small Schools East defeated Large Schools East, 6-5. Jerry Kockler, of Clear Lake, was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts.
