Police get their man

A Nora Springs woman and a Rochester, Minn. man were arrested Thursday morning, July 25, after a chase in Clear Lake.

An officer with the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force spotted a vehicle with a fraudulent license plate at about 9:40 a.m. Thursday and notified Clear Lake Police, asking for assistance in making a traffic stop.

When the vehicle was pulled over along 3rd Avenue North, 39-year-old Michael McMahan ran away from the vehicle, jumped a fence and entered a home located at 613 7th Ave. N. using the back porch.

Authorities surrounded the home and eventually arrested McMahan, who was hiding in the basement, without incident.

McMahan was facing warrants in Minnesota for drunk driving, driving under suspension, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, burglary and criminal trespass. He was charged in Thursday’s incident with criminal trespass.

Wendy Maiolo, 35, was wanted on an Iowa warrant for an open container violation.

Bond was set at $300 for McMahan and Maiolo.

A third person in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop was not charged.
