Cardinals win some, lose some
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved their record to 5-14 by picking up two more wins and dropping two last week.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team faced Bishop Garrigan in a double header on Tuesday, June 18. The Cardinals dominated one game and were dominated in the other.
G-H/V came out strong in the first game and handed the Golden Bears an 11-4 loss.
The Cardinals scored seven runs in the second inning, one in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Heath Hutcheson pitched the entire game and was the winning pitcher. He gave up 10 hits and four runs. He capped off the good game with six strike-outs and no walks.
Hutcheson also had a good night at bat, leading the team with four hits, three runs and two RBIs. Josh Theobald also had success at the plate with two hits, one run and two RBIs. Zach Buseman had two hits and three RBIs. Shaw had one hit and scored two runs. Nathan Hrubes had one RBI and scored one run. Caleb Ploeger scored one run, had one hit and one RBI. Nick Roberts scored one run and had one RBI. Blake Johnson and Keith Schwickerath each scored one run for the Cardinals.
A very strong fourth inning, where the Golden Bears scored 10 runs, sealed the 17-2, lopsided victory for Bishop Garrigan.
Spencer Shaw and Josh Theobald scored the Cardinals’ only runs. Corey Boeckman recorded the team’s only RBI.
Picking up hits were Jimmy Ermer, Shaw, Cade Baker, and Nolan Turner.
Payton James was the losing pitcher for G-H/V. He gave up 14 hits and 11 runs. He walked one batter and struck out one. Colby Reid and Cory Boeckman also had time on the mound. Reid gave up three runs and walked two. Boeckman gave up three hits and three runs and he walked one batter.
Lake Mills 9, G-H/V 1
On Wednesday, June 19, Lake Mills topped the Cardinals, 9-1.
Keith Schwickerath scored G-H/V’s lone run. Only Schwickerath, Zach Buseman and Nathan Hrubes managed to get hits off the Bulldog pitcher, Luke Kayser.
Spencer Shaw was G-H/V’s losing pitcher. He gave up seven hits and nine runs. He walked four and struck out two batters. Schwickerath also took a turn on the mound, tossing two innings. He gave up one hit, walked one and struck out two.
G-H/V 6, Osage 3
G-H/V finished up the week with a win on Friday, June 21.
Neither team scored the first three innings. A strong fourth and fifth inning saw the Cardinals take a 6-3 lead, which they held on to for the win.
Zach Buseman pitched all seven innings for the Cards. He gave up six hits and three runs. He walked one and struck out six batters.
Derek Lonneman scored two runs for the Cardinals, while Heath Hutcheson, Josh Theobald, Braden Meints and Nathan Hrubes accounted for the other four runs.
Hutcheson, Buseman and Meints had two hits apiece, while Spencer Shaw and Theobald had one hit each. One of Meint’s hits was a double.
Buseman and Keith Schwickerath had two RBIs apiece, while Meints and Roberts each had one.
