Cardinals drop first two baseball games
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball season dropped its first two games to open the 2013 season.C-G 10, G-H/V 0
Clarion-Goldfield held the Cardinals scoreless in the first game of the year with a score of 10-0.
The game was scoreless until the third inning when Clarion-Goldfield scored three runs. The Cowboys scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings and really racked up the points in the sixth, scoring five runs for the final, 10-0.
Collecting one hit apiece were Spencer Shaw, Nick Roberts, Nathan Hrubes and Jimmy Ermer.
Buseman pitched four innings for the Cardinals. He allowed four hits, four runs and walked two batters. He struck out one batter. Josh Theobald also saw action on the mound. He allowed one hit, four runs and two walks. He struck out two batters.
H-D 15, G-H/V 1
G-H/V hosted Hampton-Dumont on Thursday, May 23. The Bulldogs controlled the entire game on the way to a 15-1 victory.
Neither team scored in the first inning. At the end of the third inning H-D led, 3-1. The Bulldogs went on a tear after that, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and nine runs in the fifth.
Josh Theobald scored the Cardinals lone run in the third inning. Also collecting a hit apiece for G-H/V were Cory Boeckman and Nick Roberts.
Heath Hutcheson took the loss on the mound for the Cardinals. He pitched a total of four innings, allowing nine hits, 11 runs and five walks. He struck out three batters. Also pitching were Matt Schroder and Derek Lonneman.
