Gloria D. (Carl) Goerish was born on Aug. 25, 1939 in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Glen Albert and Clara Marie (Haech) Carl. During her growing up years she worked at the local drive thru and then worked at the local movie theater. Growing up she loved to go to the local skating rink where she met the love of her life, “Baldy,” when she was in junior high school. While in high school, she met him again when she was working at the movie theater; and on a cold winter’s night, he gave her a ride home and they continued their dating. After she graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1957, she moved to Minnesota. Gloria worked at Hopkins, Minn., as a nanny and then moved to New Ulm, Minn., where she worked in the John Oster Manufacturing Plant. Gloria was united in marriage to Gerald Goerish on Aug. 11, 1958, the love of her life. They moved to Ludwigsburg, Germany, where their daughter, Annalisa, was born. In 1960 they returned to the states. They resided in Sanborn, Minn., where two more daughters were born, Gerene and Patti. After their births, they returned to Clear Lake where a son, Jim, joined the family. Gloria started working in retail and worked at the Ben Franklin, was manager of The Clothes Chute, worked at the Gallery 3619, The Fabric Store, Martha’s Maid Rite, Burger King and then The Dollar General Store. Gloria worked a total of over 40 years in retail stores.
Gloria loved being around people and continued to do so until she got Trigeminal Neuralgia, which confined her mostly to her home. She was an advocate for this disease and started a support group in the Mason City area and was the support and telephone contact for the state of Iowa.
