Cardinals face powerhouse programs at Sectional golf

This was the first year the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys golf team competed as a 3A team in Sectional competition and the Cardinals met up with some powerhouse programs, such as Decorah, Clear Lake

and Waverly-Shell Rock.  The meet was held on Friday, May 10, in Decorah.

“As a team, we represented ourselves well with a fourth place finish in the eight-team field,” said Coach Ken Krause.  “Especially being a young squad with no seniors.”

G-H/V had consistent scoring, with Mitch Lunning and Jacob Heinemann leading the way with 88s.  Braedon Johnston carded a 90 and Matt Schroeders was only one stroke behind him with a 91 for the team total of 359.  Cory Boeckman and Ryan Grunwald had 97 and 99 respectively.

“Mitch had a strong first nine with a 40 and Jacob matched him with a 40 on the back nine,” said Krause.

Decorah won the meet with a 311, followed by Clear Lake with a 330 and Waverly-Shell Rock with 340.
