Janis C. Joslyn
Janis C. Joslyn, age 85, of Clear Lake, passed away on April 30, 2013.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Tom Joslyn; daughter, Jane (Todd) Gruis of Clear Lake; sons, Tom (Susann) of Kailua, Hawaii, Dr. Paul (Theresa) of LaCrosse, Wis., and James (Pamela) of Muscatine,
Iowa; grandchildren, Michael and Thomas Gruis, Sarah and Elizabeth Joslyn, Jennifer, Ann, Grant, and Katharine Joslyn, and Eli Joslyn; and sister, Karen Ausenhus of Omaha, Neb.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Eleanor Colby; a brother, John Eli Colby; and a grandson, Giles Joslyn.
Janis graduated from Hanlontown High School, Colorado Woman’s College, and the University of Iowa where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. After graduation from college, and her marriage to Tom, Janis taught school in Iowa City while Tom finished dental college. They moved to Clear Lake in 1953. She was devoted to her husband Tom, four children, and 10 grandchildren.
While living in Clear Lake she was a member of 21st Century Club and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mason City, and she was a past member of P.E.O. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing bridge, the lake, and their home in Florida.
The family would welcome a contribution in her memory to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401 or a charity of choice. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
