Lions top 10th ranked Lynx, 4-2, in soccer action
The Lions broke open a close game at the half and doubled the score on 10th ranked (2A) Webster City in a 4-2 game played April 30.
“Webster City is the toughest competition we’ve played this season. They put some hurt on us last year so it’s nice to get one of those monkeys off our back,” said Coach Matt Anderson. “We’re still carrying around two others so we’ll need to improve and continue to build on the positives.”
The Lynx struck first in the contest. They found the back of the goal just three minutes into the contest.
Ernie Miszewski tied the contest for the Lions in the 15th minute with a header goal off a Carson Farmer throw in.
The Miszewski/Farmer combination connected a minute later with another throw in, header goal combination giving the Lions a 2-1 advantage at half.
In the 48th minute Antonio DiMarco played a ball to the middle of the field to Karlen Lu who finished the assist for a score.
Webster City answered with a goal a minute later, making the score 3-1 Clear Lake.
In the 76th minute Jarod Anderson ran a ball down and took a shot on goal which deflected off a Webster City defender for another Lion goal, making the final score 4-2.
Clear Lake’s Thursday contest with Garner-Hayfield/Ventura scheduled for Thursday, May 2, was called off due to the weather. That game has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Garner.
