Viking Invite
On Thursday, April 25, the varsity boys traveled to Decorah to play in the eight-team Viking Invite held at Oneota Country Club. The Lions finished sixth overall in the talented field. West Delaware captured the tournament title, followed by Decorah and Owatonna, Minn. Lake-ville South (Minn.) and Winona (Minn) were fourth and fifth. Rochester (Minn.) and Cresco, Crestwood followed the Lions.
Tommy Schick led the Lions’ four counting scores with an 80. Treslyn Allison carded an 82, Shawn Snelling had an 83 and Dane Waldron finished with an 84. Also participating in the tournament for the Lions were Jon Carew (86) and Austin Rurup (91).
“It was finally nice for the guys to get out and play golf in some warmer conditions-- it was 55 degrees and sunny,” reported Assistant Coach Adam Brinkman. “They all started off on a good note, and I thought it was going to be a great outcome for us, but the guys had trouble finishing their rounds. That is something that we will have to work on if we want to play at the State tournament.”
Brinkman noted the course was a good test for the team and he encouraged them to be aware of their surroundings on the greens and tees. The Lions have been assigned to the Sectional being played at Decorah.
