Humboldt no match for CL girls soccer team

The Clear Lake girls soccer team dominated Humboldt, a newcomer to the sport, 10-0 in a game played Monday, April 15, at Lion’s Field.

Logan Anderson, Hanna Bartlett and Megan Kopriva all recorded “hat tricks” in the win.  Ivy Hogg added another goal to bring the Lions’ total to 10.

The game was stopped with 26-minutes remaining.

Coach Lothar Meyer was pleased with many aspects of his team’s play.

“Defensive sweepers Summer Tannahill and Madi Faber controlled the back very well with assists from freshmen wing guards Kelly Branstad and Erin O’Tool,” said Meyer.

The coach noted his players did a good job of following the ball after missed shots and was able to turn misses into goals.

“With Emily Willms and Hannah Bartlett feeding the wings of the midfield and forwards, we were able to keep in scoring position for corner kicks that resulted in goals,” added the coach.

Goal keeper Riley Brinkman defended one shot on goal.

Bartlett and Bailey Kibsgaard recorded one assist apiece.  Anderson had two assists and Megan Kopriva contributed three.

“Humboldt came in with a match under their belt in their first season as a girls team and showed they can play soccer,” added Meyer.

The Lions are on the road Thursday, April 18, at Iowa Falls-Alden.
