Della Grieme
Della Frieda Grieme, the daughter of William and Martha (Radke) Menke, was born July 29, 1918 in Galva, Iowa. She was baptized Aug. 4, 1918 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover, Iowa, and confirmed on March 20, 1932 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover. Della also attended the Hanover Parochial School.
On Feb. 23, 1939 she was united in marriage to Lester J. Grieme at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover. This marriage was blessed with two children, Sandra and James (Jim).
Lester and Della were engaged in farming until Della suffered a severe stroke in 1960. In 1961 they moved to Alta. Her husband worked at Hy-Grade Food Products and helped with many of the household chores. In 2006, she moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, Iowa, to be closer to her daughter, Sandy. Della liked to paint, wrote and liked poetry, and loved flowers. She was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover, and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of a neighborhood club and the 1918 Club.
Della passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, at the age of 94 years, seven months, and three days. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents; her two sisters, Alice Fahr and Leora Trimble; and one brother, Wilmer Menke.
Della is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jerry) Gunnerson of Clear Lake; her son, Jim (Lou) Grieme of Johnstown, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
