Donald Werstein
Donald D. Werstein, 76, of Clear Lake, died Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Do to his wishes, he was cremated following the service. Inurnment will be at a later time in
Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Donald was born July 31, 1936 in Mason City, the son of Anton “Tony” and Emma (Robb) Werstein. The family lived in Mason City until moving to the Tanglefoot area, Clear Lake. He attended schools in Mason City and Clear Lake. As a young boy he enjoyed spending summers on his uncle’s farm. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.
He was united in marriage to Joan Kruse on Nov. 7, 1959 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell, Iowa, and to this union two sons were born, Mark and Kevin.
He was employed by the Clear Lake Bakery for 40 years. He enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, especially with the three grandchildren, family vacations at Clamshell Beach, Whitefish Chain of Lakes, camping and traveling.
Donald is survived by wife, Joan; two sons, Mark Werstein, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kevin (Nina) Werstein, Plymouth, Minn.; three grandchildren, Casey, Shannon and Courtney Werstein, Plymouth, Minn.; brother, Richard (Phyllis) Werstein, Lawton, Okla.; sister-in-law, Jean (Douglas) Olmsted, Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lyle and Glenn Werstein.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
