Rosalyn Ames

 

Rosalyn F. Ames, 91, of Fremont, Minn., died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Fremont Area Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 25, 1921 at Mason City, Iowa, and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1939.  Rosalyn graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1943 and taught in Trayer, Iowa, from 1943 to 1946.   She 

then moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where she taught vocal and instrumental music in their elementary schools.  She moved to Fremont in 1971, and from 1973 until her retirement in 1985, she taught woodwind instruments in Fremont elementary and junior high schools. 

Rosalyn Kopecky married Donnin Ames on June 15, 1947 at Clear Lake.

  She was a member of First Methodist Church, Sarah Circle, the Retired Teachers Association, Mu Phi Epsilon Music Sorority (which she started in Sioux City), and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.  She had been a 20-year volunteer with the Fremont Area Medical Auxiliary.  Her hobbies included a total love of music, antiques, gardening, and simply visiting with friends and relatives.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Richard D. Ames (wife, Sandy) of Olathe, Kan., Steven A. Ames of Omaha, Neb., and Thomas C. Ames (wife, Cindy) of Omaha; and one sister, Mildred Kopecky Thomsen of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

  The funeral was held on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Greg Hall officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church.
