Firefighters battle early morning house fire
The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 112 N. 5th St. just after 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Fire Chief Doug Meyers reports a person walking in the area reported the fire to the police department
dispatcher. Two engine companies and one ladder company responded from Clear Lake with 15 firefighters. One engine company with five firefighters from Ventura responded.
Upon arrival of police and firefighters, smoke and fire was showing from a second story bedroom window. An aggressive entry, ventilation, search and fire attack was performed limiting fire damage to the bedroom and a first floor kitchen.
The occupants were not at home at the time of the fire.
The property is owned by Zion Lutheran Church of Clear Lake and rented by Ruth Najar. The property is insured.
Property loss is estimated at $20,000 and the cause remains under investigation. There were no injuries.
The fire department was also assisted at the scene by Alliant Utilities.
