Lions pick up wins over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove

The Clear Lake boys are continuing to ramp up their play as the regular season winds down.  Last week the Lions (13-4) picked up a win over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove.

“We’ve only got four games left before the tournament begins, and I like the direction we’re headed in,” said Coach Kevin Kahler.  “The offense has been pretty good all year, and I think we’re starting to get there defensively.”

After hosting Algona Tuesday, the Lions are on the road at Humboldt Thursday and at Charles City Saturday, Feb. 10. The Humboldy game should give the Lions a good measure of their game.  Both teams are 12-4 in the North Central Conference behind Iowa Falls-Alden (14-2).  The Lions topped the Wildcats 50-46 in the second game of the season played back in November.

CL 81, Garrigan 59

Spencer Davidson could do no wrong-- and the rest of his team was pretty flawless, as well, Tuesday when the Lions out-gunned Algona Garrigan, 81-59.

The Lions connected on 13 three-pointers, led by Davidson’s eight.  The junior finished the night with 35 points, five assists and four rebounds. Pete Swenson also had a hot hand.  He buried nine of 11 field goal attempts, was 1/1 from three-point range, and 2/2 at the free throw line.  He also dominated on the boards with a team-high 14 rebounds.

“It was a good night for us offensively.  We shot the ball extremely well,” said Coach Kahler, who’s team led 51-34 at the half.  “You don’t out shoot Garrigan very often, but we did tonight.  Considering that we didn’t have any practice time to prepare for them, I thought we performed extremely well.”
