Mavis Hobbiebrunken
Mavis O. Hobbiebrunken, 84, Clear Lake, Iowa, formerly of the Thornton, Iowa, area, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
A funeral service for Mavis was held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, with The Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton.
Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorial contributions to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mavis O. Hobbiebrunken was born on April 5, 1928 in Mason City, the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Bertelsen) Thada. Mavis attended and graduated from Thornton High School in 1945. Mavis was united in marriage to Werner Hobbiebrunken on Aug. 15, 1945 in Thornton, and to this union three children were born, Lexe, Lana, and Kim. After their marriage, they farmed in the Thornton area, until they retired and moved to Clear Lake.
Mavis enjoyed baking, cooking and always had coffee and cookies for her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Mavis was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Lexe (Howard) Chambers of Bemidji, Minn., Lana Lee of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Kim (Bill) Mainprize of Charles City, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lee (Brad) Prugh of Chicago, Ill., Matthew (Heather) Mainprize of North Liberty, Iowa, and Megan (Fred) Castle of Ames; and a great-grandson,Tyler Prugh as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Werner and sister, Delores Hudson.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
