Forfeits doom Cardinals in home wrestling meet

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wrestling team hosted Belmond-Klemme and Northwood-Kensett on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Due to a high number of forfeits, seven against N-K and six against B-K, the Cardinals had a hard time competing, dropping both matches.  G-H/V lost to Northwood, 60-18 and to Belmond-Klemme, 42-27.

“I felt like we didn’t wrestle as well against Northwood, but came back and wrestled Belmond very well,” said Coach Steve Smith.

Corey Dodd and Nic Tusha both picked up pins against Northwood-Kensett.

Dodd pinned Casey Dahlby in 1:17 at 195 pounds, while Tusha pinned his competitor in 1:16 at 220 pounds.

A forfeit at 182 pounds for Connor Smith also led to Cardinal points.

GHV vs. B-K

The Cardinals recorded three wins against Belmond-Klemme.

Nic Tusha pinned Luke Worden in 2:42, while Dalton Basinger also picked up a pin at 126 pounds.  Basinger pinned Kevin Brown in 4:00.

G-H/V’s Connor Smith fought hard against Desiderio Muillo at 182 pounds to capture a 9-4 decision.

Corey Dodd and Chase Ulven both received forfeits to account for the rest of the Cardinal’s points.

“After a very busy week of wrestling it will be nice to go into Christmas break and slow things down and really work on things and not have to focus on making weight like last week,” said Coach Steve Smith.
