Four G-H/V wrestlers place at tournament

 

    The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wres-tling team had a busy week, wrestling at Central Springs on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at West Hancock on Thursday, Dec. 13, and competing in the Glenn Brand Tournament at Clarion on Saturday, Dec. 15.

 

Central Springs Triangular

At Central Springs, the Cardinals wrestled against Forest City and Central Springs in a triangular.  G-H/V dropped both matches. 

Against Central Springs, the Cards scored 12 points to the Panthers’ 66.  The 12 Cardinal points were scored by forfeits to Corey Dodd at 195 and Brady Baker at 220.

The Cardinals also fell to Forest City, 66-6.  

Five G-H/V wrestlers were pinned.  Basinger was pinned in 2:32 by Michael Messersmith.  Arnold fell to Tristan Boehm in 4:34.  Corey Dodd was pinned in 3:48 at 195 pounds by Alex Paulson.  At 220 pounds, Brady Baker fell to Tyler Putney in 1:37, while Tusha was pinned in 4:13 by Sach Laidig.

 

Glenn Brand Tournament

At the Glenn Brand Tournament, G-H/V met with tough competition from West Hancock, Newman Catholic and Rockford.

Three G-H/V wrestlers placed at the tournament.  Corey Dodd was second, Connor Smith placed third and Dalton Basinger and Colby Reid both finished fourth.

“We also got our first dual meet win of the season against Rockford, which was good for the kids,” said Coach Steve Smith.

The Cardinals topped Rockford, 30-27, for the first win of the season.

Collecting wins for the Cardinals were AJ Arnold with a pin at 132 pounds.  Arnold pinned Ian Gray in 1:20.  Connor Smith also won by a fall in 1:39 against Wyatt Paulus at 182 pounds.  Brady Baker also had a pin at 220 pounds.  He pinned Collin Cuxlemeier in 1:08.

Newman Catholic topped G-H/V, 52-18.  

The Cardinals’ Reid picked up a fall at 138 pounds against Ben Gribben in 5:47.  Baker also won by fall in 2:53 against Colton Hansen at 220 pounds.  Basinger accounted for G-H/V’s other six points by collecting a forfeit.

West Hancock also manhandled G-H/V, 66-6.  

Basinger was the lone Cardinal to collect any points.  Basinger pinned Dakota Peterson in 2:47 at 126 pounds.
