Kathleen Watts

 

Kathleen J. Watts, 94, Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.  A Graveside Service was held Friday, Oct. 5, at the Clear Lake Cemetery with Rev. Brad Thornton officiating.  Memorials may be given to the Clear Lake Library or in Memory of Kathleen J. Watts Memorial for gifting to charities of her choice.  

      Kathleen was born Oct. 17, 1917 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest P. and Olivia (Birke) Watts.  She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1935 and Muskegon Michigan Jr. College in 1937.  She worked as the Finance Director for the State Bar of Michigan in Lansing, Mich., for 25 years retiring in 1980.  The law firm she was in was where Gerald Ford practiced before his presidency.  

     Kathleen loved being active in Clear Lake.  She was a loyal Democrat and loved to visit about politics; she was an extensive reader, and traveled to Britain and Europe.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake, P.E.O. Chapter EA and the Crescent Club.  

     Kathleen is survived by her brother, Robert (Bonnie) Crabtree, Lake Elmo, Minn.; sister-in-law, Alice Watts, Bradenton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews; and her many special friends in Clear Lake.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Annette Burton and Rosemary Smith; brothers, Dick W. Watts and Billy Watts.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
