CL cross country teams work on running strategies

Clear Lake’s cross country team are continuing to improve their times and running strategies heading into the stretch of the high school cross country season.  Last week the Lions were at Eagle Grove to compete in an 11-team meet.  The Lions were slated to compete in the North Central Conference meet Tuesday, Oct. 9.  Those results will appear in next week’s Mirror-Reporter.

Boys fifth

Jake Iverson and Antonio DiMarco finished seventh and eighth respectively in the boys race in 16:53 ad 16:58.  Alex Enabnit, Ryan Faught and Alex Blum continue to improve their placements and times, finishing 26th, 27th and 32nd.  Enabnit and Faught were clocked in 17:51 and 17:52, while Blum crossed the finish line in 18:09.

Also participating in the varsity race was MJ Mixdorf, 45th in 18:53, and Spencer Orr, 51st in 19:06.

Girls sixth

Freshman Taylor Hauser and senior Sierra Greiman put in outstanding performances and led the Clear Lake girls cross country team to a sixth place finish at Eagle Grove.  Coach Nick DiMarco reported that Hauser ran with the leaders the entire race, finishing only a few seconds out of the top five.  Greiman took a different approach to the top 15, passing 15 to 20 runners in the last 800 meters.

Hauser placed 12th with a time of 16:40; Greiman was 13th in 16:44.

Trudy Peterson was next for the Lions, crossing in 20th place in 17:12.  Rounding out the point scoring for the team was Logan Anderson, 40th in 18:28, and Katie Ouverson, 45th in 18:37.

“Logan Anderson and Katie Ouverson continue to improve and look to play a big role in the conference cross country meet,” said DiMarco.

Also running in the varsity race was Amie Adams, 59th in 19:31, Courtney Anderson, 63rd in 19:54.
