G-H/V 3, Belmond-Klemme 1

After dropping the first match 27-25 to Belmond-Klemme, the Cardinals swept through the next three sets for their fourth

conference win when they hosted the Broncos on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

“We had 10 hitting errors in set one and it got us off to a slow start,” said Coach Tracy Schmidt.  “We did not give up on our offensive plan and it paid off in the final three sets.”

G-H/V won the three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-19.

Miranda Frederick had a career high at the service line with eight ace serves.  Coach Schmidt also credited a balanced defense, with five players recording eight or more digs.  The team also had four hitters that took 15 or more swings.  Emily Mathews had a season-high blocking record with five solo blocks and five assisted blocks.

Offensive leaders included Mathews with 23 kills, Sola Stephenson with seven and Shelby Rayhons and Dasi Larson with six kills apiece.

Mathews had 10 blocks on the night, while Stephenson had four.

Younge led the team in assists with 38.

Mathews and Hannah Hutcheson were the team leaders with 14 and 11 digs respectively.  Rayhons had 10, while Frederick and Younge had nine and eight each.
