Combining programs has brought together some good athletes and a strong team

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team is looking to provide some tough competition in the 2A District 2 field.

“I’m looking for us to be competitive,” said Coach Scott Van Dusseldorp, who is in his second year at the helm of the team.  “With the joining of Garner-Hayfield and Ventura we have picked

 up some very nice athletes that will help us be a better football team.”

Despite having to replace an All-State quarterback, Van Dusseldorp said that strong offensive and defensive lines will provide some strength.  Numbers is also a plus this season with 62 athletes out for the sport.  The varsity team boasts 34 players.

The team returns nine senior letterwinners in Alex Van Gerpen, running back and defensive back; Ryan Sonquist, offensive and defensive line; Keith Schwickerath, running back and line backer; Jace Byers, offensive and defensive line; Corey Dodd, offensive line and linebacker; Zach Ryerson, offensive and defensive line; Seth Williams, wide receiver; Josh Engslter, running back and linebacker; and Thomas Treloar, offensive and defensive line.  The seniors will be joined by juniors Spencer Shaw, quarterback and defensive back; Shawn Murphy, tight end and defensive line; Colton Knutson, wide receiver and defensive back; Nic Tusha, offensive line and linebacker; Tyler Buck, running back  - Read More Via e-Edition
