G-H/V team motto, “Together We Can,” will guide 2012 season
The team philosophy of the G-H/V volleyball team says it all: “Together We Can.” Despite the combining of two programs, Coach Tracy Schmidt and her team are committed to combining two programs to make a strong team that is ready to compete.
“Anytime you combine two teams it is going to take time to learn to play next to different people,” said Schmidt. “The more we play together, the more experience we will have and we look to steadily improve early on.”
Depth at every position is a strength the team will boast this season. With 51 athletes out for volleyball, the level of competition is high.
Leading the team will be six letterwinners. Two seniors top the list in Hannah Hutcheson and Brittani Watson. Hutcheson will play outside hitter. Last season she had 83 kills, 150 digs and 30 ace serves. Watson will be a right side hitter who contributed 78 kills last year.
Other leaders include juniors Emily Mathews, Courtney Younge, Shelby Rayhons and Miranda Fredericks. Mathews will play middle hitter. She was a First Team All-Conference selection last year for Ventura. She recorded 170 kills, 148 digs and 54 ace serves. Both Younge and Rayhons received Second Team All-Conference last season for Ventura. Younge will be the team’s setter. She recorded 298 assists and had 26 ace serves. Rayhons will play as an outside hitter. She had 83 kills, 140 digs- Read More Via e-Edition
